KG – Superwoman

An emerging voice encouraging positivity, South African born, Canberra hip-hop artist KG looks directly at a diversifying Australian music scene. KG’s connection with his African heritage and culture has always remained a strong one when it comes to threading these influences through his music. His father, a freedom fighter alongside Nelson Mandela, passed down this sense of justice and drive in pushing for social equality and awareness of the issues that face young people in particular.

When it comes to KG as an artist, his reputation as one of the east coast’s most formidable hip hop talents has long been set. With hundreds of live shows under his belt and the support from the likes of MTV, Triple J and Spotify, KG’s grind has not gone unnoticed.

Generating discussion surrounding his 2018 singles ‘Black Boy’ and ‘Mabo Martin Mandela’, KG finished 2019 releasing a new collection of music that presents a defined image of a hip-hop artist doing things his own way – in the ‘Doin’ Me’ EP.

Having established himself as an emerging name to watch stages, including Groovin’ The Moo and the Spilt Milk festival, it has become inevitable that KG’s scope for exposure and success has broadened.

About this track…

‘Superwoman’ is a breezy, heartfelt ode to the strength and resilience of women. Timed to coincide with International Women’s Day, KG wants this song, and his voice, to be part of a vital conversation about making the world a place where all women can shine and feel empowered.

REMI – Elevate

The double release follows the duo’s returning single “5.A.M.” feat. Whosane and ballad “Brain” feat. Lori. Each song’s multi-layered components shine a light on the duo’s iconic brand of hip-hop, soul and R&B on full display in forthcoming LP, Fried. After waiting four years for their next full length, Fried will enter the world this April as a representation of their continued growth, and a tribute to over 8 years of friendship, trust and magic that exists between the pairing.

Since emerging onto the scene in 2014 with their Australian Music Prize-winning debut Raw x Infinity, REMI have had a number of stellar collaborations including with fellow AMP-winner Sampa The Great, Manchester’s R&B/Soul singer, [ K S R ] and Jordan Rakei on their triple j feature & ARIA nominated sophomore album, Divas and Demons.

On the stage, REMI recently treated fans with appearances at Spilt Milk Ballarat, St Kilda Festival and the recent Party in the Paddock where Remi himself also took the stage in sets with Briggs and Arno Faraji. A 4-date tour late last year saw a raucous, sold-out hometown show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and gave crowds across the country a serve of their new work.

About this track…

A slick beat sliced by cascading bass expels the groove behind “Elevate”. Balanced by weaving dialogue and hints of cymbal, the track is dedicated to feeling in the moment and embracing whole-hearted fun. As if pulled directly from a freestyle session, Remi’s flows thrive on explosive production from Sensible J, words rolling off the tongue to foster their own feeling.
