Otiuh – One For Me

The two deliver fierce flows over vibrant instrumentation that offers one of the more unique voices in the Australian hip hop landscape.

The two released a string of singles in 2018 that earned themselves national radio play on Home & Hosed, as well as the Hip Hop Show on Triple J. Papa and Baker also formed a tight three-piece band during this time and have become renowned for their high energy live shows at venues across their hometown.

With tracks resulting from sessions with local musicians as well as featuring self-produced songs, Cold Recreation is a diverse and unpredictable body of work with beats being likened to that of El-P or Brockhampton.

Their first single from the project, Move, was affectionately dubbed “the track of the summer” by Purple Sneakers. While the second, Pink Gelato, has earned national recognition after being added to Apple Music’s ‘The New Australia’ playlist as well as receiving Rage and MTV adds.

To celebrate the release of Cold Recreation, Otiuh have also recently completed a debut national tour in May which will saw them bring a full live band to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

About this track…

One For Me is the single up first. Love song about getting off of Tinder. Chorus heavy. Tight summer-like production and our first foray into singing. Short and sweet. Video will reflect this. Handheld camera style, lots of deadpan closeups in a beautiful garden.

The Stoops – If I Had a Kid

Guess what!? The Stoops are back! It has been 6 years since our last track, Middle of a Riot, and while all has seemed quiet on the Western Front, the arsenal of tracks we’ve got ready to drop would suggest otherwise. So get ready, we’re about to peel the poster back from our own Andy Dufresne tunnel.

We are a 3-piece outfit from Perth, WA, who have been making golden era inspired hip hop for going on 15 years. We comprise of three core members; DJ – Arms In Motion and emcees -Roc Walla and Pronto. We’ve spent the majority of the last few years tweaking and evolving our soul- fuelled signature sound in preparation for what could now be almost regarded as a Debut release (although it is our third). “Boom Cycle”, is an entirely self produced album which we are beyond excited to finally reveal to you.

Now we are finally ready to release the first of a small run of singles before releasing the album later this year. First off the ranks is “If I Had a Kid”, due to be released Feb 28th, 2020.

About this track…

Emerging as a playful thought experiment which, in an ironic twist of fate, would become a foretelling as Pronto recently became a proud father. It was this personal milestone that reignited the release, marking a new chapter & setting the stage for Boom Cycle.

An acknowledgement of our own mistakes disguised in the form of parental guidance.

Zac Slater – DAMN

Born into a musical family (his father a drummer and mother a singer), Zac was only two years old when he first picked up a set of drumsticks and started banging out beats, discovering early on an innate desire to make music.

Since moving to Melbourne to pursue his music career, Zac has played alongside some of Australia’s most loved artists including Sticky Fingers, Thundamentals, Kingswood, Ivan Oooze and Boo Seeka. 2017 saw him move crowds at Falls Festival, Basin Concert and Party In The Paddock. Zac also released his second EP ‘The Versatile Mind’ late 2017 and signed with Alt. Music Group.

2018 was a monumental year for Zac. He released two tracks, ‘I Gotta Smile’ and ‘Take a Shot’, which took over the Triple J Unearthed Charts.

‘I Gotta Smile’ had 2 weeks at number 1 on the indie charts, while ‘Take a Shot’ had 3 weeks atop of the hip hop charts. He also supported several notable acts such as; the legendary Bootleg Rascal, Australia’s wonder boy RUEL, and New Zealand chiller’s Mako Road.

With big plans already in action for 2020, you better keep an ear ready for Zac Slater.

About this track…

Damn is a reflection of myself. Come along way since my new beginnings battled some demons now I’m kinda winning’ the opening lines… ‘New beginnings’ being a song on my first record I released back in 2016. Often though people close to you can leave you begging the question.. ‘ yeah but would you do it for me ?’

KG – Superwoman

An emerging voice encouraging positivity, South African born, Canberra hip-hop artist KG looks directly at a diversifying Australian music scene. KG’s connection with his African heritage and culture has always remained a strong one when it comes to threading these influences through his music. His father, a freedom fighter alongside Nelson Mandela, passed down this sense of justice and drive in pushing for social equality and awareness of the issues that face young people in particular.

When it comes to KG as an artist, his reputation as one of the east coast’s most formidable hip hop talents has long been set. With hundreds of live shows under his belt and the support from the likes of MTV, Triple J and Spotify, KG’s grind has not gone unnoticed.

Generating discussion surrounding his 2018 singles ‘Black Boy’ and ‘Mabo Martin Mandela’, KG finished 2019 releasing a new collection of music that presents a defined image of a hip-hop artist doing things his own way – in the ‘Doin’ Me’ EP.

Having established himself as an emerging name to watch stages, including Groovin’ The Moo and the Spilt Milk festival, it has become inevitable that KG’s scope for exposure and success has broadened.

About this track…

‘Superwoman’ is a breezy, heartfelt ode to the strength and resilience of women. Timed to coincide with International Women’s Day, KG wants this song, and his voice, to be part of a vital conversation about making the world a place where all women can shine and feel empowered.

Joel Rafidi – 11:11

Following the release of 3 singles in 2019, I became aware that there were a lot of people who want to hear what I put on a record. I wanted to give them a project, more than a taste. More than drip-feeding staggered flares of creativity. This is where Paradigm Shift the EP was conceived.

Hip-Hop for me is an opportunity to share what is true for me internally and externally, and packaging those words and flows seamlessly to a beat and instrumentation to enhance the message and the essence of what is being said in order to share an experience with the listener. This is what is being done on this record. Simply an exchange of truth.

What I share comes from within and comes from my direct experience and understanding of the nature of myself and reality captured in a moment of space and time.

Paradigm Shift crosses a number of topics and branches of hip-hop including chill-hop, lo-fi and soul. I speak on consciousness, awareness, societal toxicity and passiveness. I also share my most personal song yet on ’11:11’

About this track…

11:11 features Joel’s trademark, deliberate cadence, altered with a little flare and melody. 11:11 is a delicate and vulnerable ballad dedicate to Joel’s then-partner and now wife, featuring downtempo production from Deaf Wolf Studios and impeccable mastering by …. 11:11 is immersive, gentle, warm and catchy.

REMI – Elevate

The double release follows the duo’s returning single “5.A.M.” feat. Whosane and ballad “Brain” feat. Lori. Each song’s multi-layered components shine a light on the duo’s iconic brand of hip-hop, soul and R&B on full display in forthcoming LP, Fried. After waiting four years for their next full length, Fried will enter the world this April as a representation of their continued growth, and a tribute to over 8 years of friendship, trust and magic that exists between the pairing.

Since emerging onto the scene in 2014 with their Australian Music Prize-winning debut Raw x Infinity, REMI have had a number of stellar collaborations including with fellow AMP-winner Sampa The Great, Manchester’s R&B/Soul singer, [ K S R ] and Jordan Rakei on their triple j feature & ARIA nominated sophomore album, Divas and Demons.

On the stage, REMI recently treated fans with appearances at Spilt Milk Ballarat, St Kilda Festival and the recent Party in the Paddock where Remi himself also took the stage in sets with Briggs and Arno Faraji. A 4-date tour late last year saw a raucous, sold-out hometown show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and gave crowds across the country a serve of their new work.

About this track…

A slick beat sliced by cascading bass expels the groove behind “Elevate”. Balanced by weaving dialogue and hints of cymbal, the track is dedicated to feeling in the moment and embracing whole-hearted fun. As if pulled directly from a freestyle session, Remi’s flows thrive on explosive production from Sensible J, words rolling off the tongue to foster their own feeling.

Tasman Keith – Nightmares On 9th.

‘Nightmares On 9th.’ is a testament to Tasman Keith’s expansive artistic flexibility. Tasman says: “Nightmares On 9th. represents the 9th hour that you wake and realise that everything that seems to be a bad dream is real. I wanted it to be like a classic horror film, a concept that relies heavily on things that do really happen. Things that I’ve personally experienced, and things I know the listeners can relate to. The hypnotic feel/sound is something me and my producers wanted to explore, we intended for it to be an ear candy piece but also something that works really well live. It took some back and forth but in the end we found the perfect balance.” Dropped at the tail-end of last year, the success of ‘BILLY BAD AGAIN’ capped a prosperous 2019 for Keith in which he also dropped his acclaimed collaborative EP with Stevie Jean, Evenings. Along the way, Tasman graced larger and larger stages nationally, including Laneway Festival, Groovin’ the Moo, BIGSOUND and more, following the release of his Mission Famous Documentary. Nominated for Next Big Thing at the 2019 FBi SMAC Awards and named “One To Watch in 2020” by triple j Unearthed.

About this track…

Blending skittering trap percussion, syrupy, twisted 90s West Coast synths and a nocturnal atmosphere, Keith’s malleable flow constantly morphs between a menacing drowsiness and his signature, energetic delivery. Overall it speaks to Tasman’s refusal to be pinned down and a willingness to define his career with a continuously fearless approach, rather than constricting himself to any one sound or style.

Kwame – schleep.

Timing out at just over two minutes the track storms in as a surprise standalone blip, coming together almost as quickly as the final product. “I made this in 15 minutes as a little throwaway beat for fun, then I realised it was kinda hard so I turned it into a song lmao,” says Kwame.

“I do this sh*t in my schleep” rips the opening mantra, spitting Kwame’s diversity of production and prolific songwriting abilities into fruition. Directed by Kwame, the accompanying video only elevates the flex.

Served up as a standalone release, ‘schleep.’ is a jovial pivot from Kwame’s previous offering ‘NOBODY feat. E^ST’ – premiered by Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. Flexing his absolute dominance as one of Australia’s most in-demand collaborators, Kwame’s ability to produce, perform and write across all hip-hop genres is paying off. Further expanding his boundary pushing catalogue, he recently teamed up on party track ‘Summer Rain’ with Wave Racer, and also joined Matt Corby on Triple One’s ‘So Easy’.

About this track…

‘schleep.’ is a new release that will not feature on Kwame’s third extended play.

The track come as a sharp left turn from the sound that’s been presented so far for Kwame’s upcoming EP, and a part of a wider idea he’s keen to replicate on future release cycles – break from the norm and keep fans guessing.

Nardean – weightless

Growing up in Western Sydney’s Mount Druitt, sometimes provocative and always sassy, Nardean embodies the under-represented and often misrepresented voices of Australian women of colour. She says “Growing up where I did, there was no one out here doing music, let alone an Egyptian woman. I want to be the woman that young, multicultural girls can look up to, and see themselves in. I want them to know that if I can do it, they can too.”

Today Nardean releases her mesmerizing new single “weightless” and announces her sophomore EP “THE NEW ERA” out on Friday, May 1st.

‘“THE NEW ERA” is the follow up to her highly acclaimed 2018 debut EP “Creatress”, which explores her Arabic roots and Australian upbringing and showcases her incredible talent to traverse rap, melody, and poetry.

The new EP, produced by Stackhat, highlights Nardean’s signature love of language, which she has embraced since her days at Macquarie University studying English Literature. “weightless” is a sneak peak into an EP that is sonically remarkable, lyrically intelligent and bursting with personality.

About this track…

“weightless” is about the difference between “light vs dark” and “light vs. heavy”… I think that somewhere along the way we got it wrong. We kept searching for the “light,” instead of focusing on feeling light (not heavy) within ourselves! This song is about dropping all the heavy sh*t…

Steven Adams – Are You Listening?

Melbourne based rapper and song writer, Steven Adams, fell in love with the art of writing since the very first time he immersed himself in the works of his favourite poets. His eclectic taste for music, ranging from country to jazz, to hip-hop to metal, to even punk rock, is axiomatic in the product of his work. Adams’ style is a blend of lo-fi hip-hop, infused with elements redolent of early 2000s emo. Steven Adams creates music for the people, in order to assuage their fears about love, hate and the vicissitudes of life. His work addresses topics such as the inherently fickle nature of love, self-worth, and the importance of self-appreciation. Steven Adams aims to provide confidence to his listeners, one lyric at a time. It is music for you, from him.

About this track…

The song is premised around several motifs, notably ideas of insecurity and inadequacy. However, the overarching theme of the song addresses the volatility of friendship, and how adverse experiences impact ones ability to trust. The title “Are You Listening?” is more or less a plead for help, urging those to acknowledge the current issues one may be dealing with.
