aka Jigzaw, member of Resin Dogs

His first official release was the Hempatitis tape in 1995 under the project name Blunted Stylus which also features the talents of DJ Fib.
– Few Australian producers can lay claim to the long history that belongs to Brisbane’s Jigzaw. An artist in his own right- labelling his project work under the moniker Blunted Stylus- Jigzaw is also a cornerstone of one of Australia’s biggest bands- the Resin Dogs. A renowned beat digger, Jigzaw has a ‘loops intact’ approach to his work, raiding the obscure and the overlooked sampling gems of jazz and funk. His work has developed from the ‘pause-edit’ mix tapes of the mid eighties, into complex musical arrangements- minutely cut and flipped. Becoming interested in electronic music, and on to Hip Hop in the early 1980’s, Jigzaw was one of the few Australian pioneers actively involved in the Graffiti and Breaking movement that swept Australia a few years later. In 1988 he took to the airwaves on Brisbane’s community radio station 4ZZZ, broadcasting that city’s first hip hop show ‘Jus 2 Def’ alongside his co-host Biz. His first official release was the Hempatitis tape in 1995 under the project name Blunted Stylus which also features the talents of DJ Fib. This was just the first of many ‘certified classics’ for which Jigzaw is so well regarded by his peers and fans. The next few years saw enormous activity. Forming the now legendary Resin Dogs with DJ Katch and Dave Atkins in 1996 and releasing Hempatitis and 2Blunted (Blunted Stylus 2) on vinyl the following year. Blunted Stylus 3 arrived in 1998, the B Side flowing with Jigzaw’s sounds from 1989 through to 1995. In 2000 he released the Traveller One Funk- Soul mix cds. Jigzaw describes them as “a broad cross-section of 70’s funk and soul, rock/fusion, jazz and disco.” Jigzaw’s project work has developed alongside the frantic touring and recording demands of the Resin Dogs. Firmly established in 2004 as one of Australia”s premiere musical outfits. The coming months will witness the arrival of Corner Pieces (Blunted Stylus 4) on the Hydrofunk label, the latest instalment from the vaults of Jigzaw. A deep playlist of rocking beats and funk laden grooves blessed with guests like Koolism, Brothers Stoney, Quro and pianist Charlie Chan make the latest Blunted Stylus release a true Australian epic.

Harvesting sounds from all manner of mediums and vinyl grooves, Jigzaw has added his name to many compilations, remixes and collaborations. His fascination with great music, with the process of sampling ‘loops intact’ and his commitment to developing something fresh from the leftovers of yesteryear all make for great listening.
