Jamahl Ryder is a new breed of indigenous artist that is a part of the rise in Australian Hip Hop. Since the age of 15, Jamahl started writing raps with friends as a way of telling “his” story. With influences such as Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G, Big Pun, Rakim and KRS-One to name a few, Jamahl’s lyrical style has been as unique as he makes it. Jamahl’s first big break into performing came at W.A.A.P.A in Ab Theatre class, he performed his first verse and then at Ab Music. It was at Ab Music where he started the group “Obstrukt” with Tera & Seeko. The group has done few performances there as well as Kulcha Club, Naidoc day in Maddington, Hyde Park Hotel, Survival Day, Ngalang Koorlak, the Too Solid Festival. Since the group disbanded, Jamahl has been working on his solo album with award winning producer DardyAzz as well as solo performances such as The Bartlett Brothers Album release, MC Trooth’s E.P, Launch Block Party and Blow N Up Hip Hop Night and recently co-headlined Hip Hop at the Velvet Lounge.
