Kim Dezen is a name that always brought out the Adelaide hip hop fans, from placings and titles in some of Australias biggest DJ battles to genre-blurring club sets. Mashing up hip-hop with classic disco and funk he has shown the ability to reach heads from a wide variety of scenes and most importantly keep the dancefloor rammed. – https://itm.junkee.com/kim-dezen-turntablist-in-transit/5363

Yeah, I used to play on the Shade quite often back in the day when Next, Mapcap and Quro were hosting the show. I used to listen to the show all the time when I was about 15-16, so I was proud to be a part of it just before it went off the air in about 2000. I pretty much broke into the Adelaide scene after battling Dexta and Kuya in the 98 ITF comp – and also placing higher up in all the comps I entered in shortly after that definitely helped push my profile. Having said that, I gotta give a shout out to Derek (Madcap) for giving me the opportunity to rock club sets at most of the shows (both local and international) that he was putting on at the time.. I think most turntablists will agree that it takes a long time before people start taking you seriously as a club DJ when most recognise you as being just a ‘scratcher’!
