Penny Purr is a Perth (Australia) based rapper, singer and song writer from Whangarei, New Zealand.
In 2014 Penny won the “Perth Raw Artist Of The Year” award in the performing arts category for her spoken word performance.
By 2015, she made the transition from spoken word into music and after working on collaborations with local rapper Bluntfield, Penny began working with local Perth producers such as Rob Shaker, Uncle Sam and Optamus. Her tracks are inspired by hip hop with lyrical content that includes life experiences often with riddles, twists and punchlines from her favourite movies and mythology – 2 of her other deep passions from a young age.
In 2016 she released her debut EP Welcome To Purrgatory and then went on to release singles Sugar Plum Purr, Being Me and Bad Witch but in 2018 she vanished from the scene for personal reasons.
In 2019 she re-released her music and snuck out a brand new EP simply titled Penny Purr. The EP heavily highlights who she is and where she has been. She now has an EP produced by Optamus planned for release in 2019 and a full album for 2020, so it’s safe to say she’s not giving her rap game up again any time soon.
