Resin Dogs are a Brisbane, Australia-based hip hop band / collective, originally formed in 1996. Resin Dogs are a loose collective, a cut and paste sample band, using live drums, live bass, and elements of hip hop via turntables and samplers to create all forms of ritual dance sounds.
Resin Dogs consist of David Acosta Atkins, DJ Katch, Dennis Kudelka, and Kel on earth with regular guest appearances in Australia by Hau Latukefu (aka Hau) (Koolism), N’Fa Forster-Jones (aka Nfamas) (1200 Techniques) and on their overseas touring they appear with Abstract Rude (ATU)(US), Mystro (Natural Born Spitter)(UK), and BluRum13 (Canada).
The Resin Dogs were formed in 1996, releasing their debut EP, Grinnin’, on their own label, Hydrofunk, in 1997. This was followed by subsequent EPs, Volcanic Lab (1998), with the track, “Say Yeah”, receiving airplay on Triple J making its way up the Australian Independent Records (AIR) charts.
In 2000 Resin Dogs signed a distribution deal with Virgin Records/EMI for their record label, Hydrofunk, and released their debut album, Grand Theft Audio. This was followed by a second EP, Live Like Dogs(2002). During the recording of their second album, two singles were released “Set It Off”, featuring underground legend Abstract Rude from the USA, and “Take Off” with Sydney’s Good Buddha on vocals.
Breaking the mould. Blurring the boundaries. Subverting the status quo. From cross-genre sonics, to independent label heroics, Resin Dogs have
continuously made their own rules and carved a unique niche in the global
scene as one of Australia’s most renowned and respected music exports.
Late 2008
the Dogs returned with their massive third album ‘More’ – 14 tracks of pure, groove-drenched funk – undoubtedly their finest offering to date.
Co-produced by the Nextmen’s Brad Baloo, the album shines with remarkable versatility, as Resin Dogs flex their musical muscle over 60 head-nodding minutes.
On the album opener, ‘Coming with the Sound’, the Dogs bring the
funk to the forefront with brilliant booty-shaking effect feat LAs underground Kingpins,Aceyalone Abstract Rude ; Myka9
whilst kingpin UKs Mystro teams up with aria award winning Hau from Koolism to dish up the goods on the album’s dub-flavoured first single Definition
Nextmen’s Baloo steps up for a smooth slice of funk perfection with YunGun on vox, whilst the Dogs’
stunning song-writing lead the way in ‘Caught up’ – an exquisite vocal-led gem from Abstract Rude.
With stunning contributions from the likes of Abstract Rude (US), Aceyalone, Mikah 9, Demolition Man (UK),
MC Wreck ; JSD plus many others, the globe-trotting Dogs have created the kind of world-beating album
that achieves the impossible – it raises the bar on their already impressive career and is guaranteed to
convert hoards to the Dogs’ intoxicating beat.
10 year veterans of the Australian music scene, the Resin Dogs will be staying true to their independent
roots by releasing ‘More’ through their own Hydrofunk imprint. An irresistible concoction of beats, bass and
attitude, the LP strikes a knockout blow of truly global proportions.
